This will be my very last post in my Primary School years. Some of the special moments that I posted have been writing about The Switch, Silvagni Project and They’re Calling On You. One of the successes the have occurred to me was actually making my buddie Kiara talk to me! It took almost 150 odd days but she finally talked to me and not making me hear everyone else say that she talked to them. One of the challenges that I have faced have been making my buddie talk, as it took almost 150 odd days you can almost feel the pain that is inside of me. The funniest moment that has happened to me were being with my friends. I know it sound weird but it is, telling jokes and being silly is what they’re specialty is! The dumbest riddle my friends went around and told was, You can enter, but may not come in. I have space, but you cannot walk. I have keys, but open no lock. What am I? A Computer! Finally, I will miss writing on this blog but not everything can always go on for forever! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Last night we had annual St Margaret Mary’s Carols! The songs that the seniors had to sing were O Little Town Of Bethlehem and The First Nowell. Personally, I think we bombed the first song but the second we smashed it out of the park! There might have been a few stuff ups but because there were many of us, I don’t think the audience noticed any of it. The most challenging thing was getting up on stage because I have stage fright and I was like a statue! I’m most proud of actually singing the song because I was so focused on getting up on stage I almost forgot to sing. I’m looking forward to watch the carols from the sidelines next year and videotaping my siblings from the top of the building and I will never, ever, let them forget it! But if you were going up on stage to sing a carol, what song would you choose
Yesterday in Art we finished our Christmas Baubles which was really fun. At the start we had to put little droplets of green food colouring on the page, then we cut a straw in half and blew all over the page. We left the page to dry for a week and we started on the baubles, which existed on paper. We painted the page full of colours and we traced circles around the page which were the lines for our baubles. Once we cut out our baubles, we stuck them on the pge and attached them to the top lines of the page. Then we are done. What do you think is the most fun part of making this artwork?
Today we continued working on one of Zoos Victoria campaigns to help specific animals, such as Don’t Palm us off which helps the Orangutans and the Sumatran Tiger. There are 6 campaigns the Zoo have put together. The campaign that I am working on is called ¨They’re Calling On You¨ which helps the Gorillas. The Gorillas are also part of the SOS 10, where the Zoo wants to help the animal because they think the animal is in serious need of attention. The Gorilla is now Critically Endangered from the illegal mining of the of the substance called Coltan which is a part of a phone. To find out more, visit the Zoos Victoria website and search “They’re Calling On You” and it’s all there in black and white. What campaign would you want to look into?
Have you ever heard the name Stephen Silvagni? Famous player for Carlton, his nickname is SOS? Well for my Italian project this term we had to pick a famous Italian person, so I choose Stephen Silvagni. Stephen Silvagni played 312 games and kicked 202 goals, he was only 16 when he started playing! Silvagni got inducted into the AFL hall of fame in 2005 and the Carlton hall of fame in 1996! Have a look at my Italian project for term 3:
Today we were coming to the end of our Religion topic which was being Stewards of the Earth. We had to reflect on what we did, so I reflected on Pope Francis and his letter Laudato Si.
Laudato Si in Italian means Praised be You, Pope Francis wrote a whole letter to the people on Earth about how we should care for who lives on the Earth, the plants and trees that grow and live of the Earth. Pope Francis declared this year the Year Of Mercy so we should respect that by respecting the Earth by not stripping the Earth of its forests and not polluting the water.
I wonder if Pope Francis’s letter got through to anyone? Is anyone going to do something about our odd predicament – pollution? The Earth is our home, it’s the only one we will ever get so we shouldn’t pollute it.
Today we found out our Inter School Sport teams, the games were, Soccer, Cricket and Volley Catch, and I got into Soccer. When we had our first practice today and picture yourself watching a great team like Liverpool, we were 10 times worse! Nah, just joking but we were far from great. We started our training session by having some shot and I know for a fact that I need to practice on that area of the game. I’m looking forward to actually playing our first game because once we play our first game, we can see what area’s of the game we need to work on. I think our team works well because we all want to play the sport, that is why we all put the sport down as our first preference, so we all had the passion to do well playing that sport. So what do you think makes a good team?
Today we have been learning about ecosystems and the ecosystem I am working on is the marine ecosystem, swampland in other words. In particular the Mangrove Swamp, did you know that the tide controls life in a Mangrove Swamp, because the Mangrove branches goes up to breathe a little, but when the tide goes back out, the whole tree in not underwater anymore. There is two types of waters the Mangrove Swamps have around them, they are saltwater and freshwater. My favorite animal that lives in a saltwater Mangrove Swamp is the Saltwater Crocodile.
Mangrove Swamps have over 80 types of Mangrove trees at a Mangrove Swamps, so all over the island there are 80 different types of Mangrove trees all over the place. What is your favorite animal that is at an Mangrove Swamp?
Two weeks ago the seniors went to the Melbourne Zoo. When we went got there, we went straight to the Seal enclosure to hear a talk about the SOS 10.
The SOS 10 are 10 animals that the Zoo’s Victoria want to spend money on trying to save the animals and to try not making them extinct. The animals are: The Lion, Tasmanian Devil, Helmeted Honeyeater, Western Lowland Gorilla, Growing Grass Frog, Lord Howe Island Stick Insect, Philippines Crocodile, Orangutans, Asian Elephant and finally the Australian Fur Seal.
We got told to lend our Voice to one of the animals but we could lend our voice to only one animal. I found out the Helmeted Honeyeater is the last bird that originated in Victoria and not brought to Australia from another country.
I was surprised that the Zoo were already predicting that the Orangutans will be extinct in the wild in 10 years! I wonder if the Orangutans will live on longer than 10 years in the wild, what do you think? If you could lend your voice to an animal, which of the SOS 10 would you pick?
Today we had to pick some goals for term 4, luckily I had achieved my goal from last term which was making my buddy talk on the 100 day celebration for the preps. My goal for this term is to make my handwriting a lot bigger and easier to read because next year at high school, I don’t want my teachers to not be able to read my work! Do you have a goal to improve on?
